  1. We Costa Ricans are people of beliefs, who come from our grandparents, we maintain the culture and also the hope that things will be better, since, as indicated by the text are actions or objects to which you have faith. Using them in some special way is the beginning to have a good year.
I think it is important to believe in this kind of things, it gives hope and in a certain way is to start the year with positivism, it is clear that after the effort comes the reward, not everything depends on the "magic" but it identifies us as people and people. It is important to maintain these customs, it gives us joys and a way to share with the family.

  2. The traditions represent our culture, are an important way to stregthen our values and to unite generations. During holydays our families remember some traditions. The oldest peaple talk about plays, foods and things that they did when they were kids, that improves relations. Some peaple do rituals in the new year with the faith that the things will be better. In Costa Rica we use expressions that show the faith that we have and the hope that identifies us. It's very important to preserve the traditions and customs because they are a bridge to unite the youngest and oldest peaple

  3. I am a proud to be "Tico" I believe the traditional culturs are very important for the people who practicing them, because they really enyoy doing them, when you see someone eating 12 grapes in 12 seconds it is very funny, and running around the block with a suitcase, you can see the happiness of the persons, and it does not matter will be real or not, the most important thing it is see the familia are together.
The expressions that costa rican s people use it is the way to identify the "Tico". In another places and countries you can recognize the particular way to talk and when you hear some of the phrases you feel comfortable and welcome in whatever place, we should not lose these traditions.

  4. Some ne year traditions are very funny, like running aroun the corner with a bag to ensure at least a travel in the new year. I think is important to maintain traditions, in order to maintain our culture, but I think it is wrong truly believe in superstitions. I think it is easier to blame the destinity or the bad luck, for bad things that happen every day, rather than analyze what are we doing wrong with our lifes. We have to work hard every day to trait to make our lives better, intead of using excuses. Traditions should be maintain for fun and to remember our history, but some traditions should be keep just for fun, not to ruel our lives.

Costa Rica is a country with many traditions and a very modest culture. For example, in my family are some of the year ending traditions mentioned in the article, but it is our responsability to continue with that from generation to generation. However, some costumes have been lost little by little like some games in children. Currently, children and teenagers grow up a lot of technology and it is something that we have to control and supervise. We have to try to talk more with our family and try to reduce the use of cellphone when we are together. For maintain traditios we should have dinner together and talk different kind of topics.

  6. I think Costa Rica traditions and its culture are very specials, authentics and funny, because it rescues the acknowledge of our grandparents. So, that is too proud and in my case I enjoy listening histories and sometimes if I can I do some tradition. For example, on new year's eve my siblins and me run aroung the block with a suitcase, also I put some coins on my socks and we use new yellow underpants.
I think these are good points to live our life, because we enjoy the tradition and hope a good year: living, traveling, good health, good job, and others.
The rescue of traditions improve our positivism, to achieve new goals and to be happyness.

  7. In my house, no one does "agüizotes" like the eating 12 grapes or running a half mile with a wallet, but some cousins of my parents cannot spend a New Year's Eve without those rituals for good luck. These activities are part of our identity as a country, just as it is saying "God willing" and "God willing", that reveals humility that might contribute to our overall wellbeing. Worldwide, people recognize "ticos" because our use of expressions is quite unique. But, as the author of the article stated, "Costa Ricans could use a stricter sense of responsibility in some areas", because they have a meeting with Costa Rican they expect him / her to be late for the well-known "hora tica". So, we must continue preserving our culture through generations keeping our fun and interesting costumes, but we should eradicate some bad habits that we have as a country.

  8. I think the culture is something important because tell a lot from a place or country. Here in Costa Rica we still have a lot of traditions, but also we are losing plenty of them. Nowadays we say as my grandmother used to say or used to do, because we stopped to believe in most of the traditions, we try to copy the traditions from other parts of the world. We have to preserve our own culture and traditions that maintain our own signed and gives people hope in the world.

  9. In my case, I did not know about some traditions mentioned in the text such as eating 12 grapes in 12 seconds or distributing chickpeas to make a kind of charm. In my family we do not have that kind of habits, we do not really have a kind of spell or something similar to get good luck during the year, we just let things happen. I believe that having or not having superstitions is in each person although perhaps many of that kind of traditions will be lost in a few decades, we must respect and not judge badly who believe that an object or an action will give you luck during the year . I do not agree that the words such as "que dicha" and "ojalá" provide the notion that we are subject to forces that we can not control, there will be people who use it in that sense but in my case they are like phrases of the language that use frequently. I feel that each person has their own philosophy and applies it to their life, I believe that each person builds their own luck and have control over their destiny until a certain point.

  10. I think, is important to preserve some traditions. However there are traditions that are only supertitions, for example, think that wear some clothes is symbol of good luck. How the article said, this traditions represent some caracteristics in the personality of people, but my personal opinion is that people who believe in this supertition most of the time actualy let things ocure because of luck. And thats wrong.

  12. I grow up in a tradicional family, my brothers, friends and i, were running before the eve new year to find who could give us five cents for the good lucky.
i grow up in a middle of traditions and i am proud of each of this. I think is very important each generation know about this.
The goverment, could add this type of matter in the education of the young people, make activities and make that they talk whith the old people about the ativities they made when they were youngs.

  13. I think culture is a problematic word, usually we use this term to reffer to knowledge or precense of certain forms of beheavior of prestigious people. The readding show the other face of the word, realted with traditions, beliefs, customs and creative activities of community and what makes that community different from others, in this sense it is impossible a be a person without culture. I think we should feel identified with our culture, not even be ashamed of traditions without much sense or ridiculous, because we should not forget who we are and our origin, I think we should also resist the globalization of culture, stop adopting other people's customs, seeking to homogenize to all people as if we were equal

  14. Culture represents the face of a society. Traditions are an important part of culture. For that reason, when you travel to another country, you will note that there are different ways of thinking and the perspectives can be very different than ours. However, there are some traditions, like the ones mentioned in the article, which are kind of useless and make no sense. I think traditions are more complex than they could seem. Some of them are very rough, such as bull riding, women mutilation and so on. Definitely, they should change even though they face the identity of some civilizations. For me, the traditions related with food should be preserved :D you know... It's FOOD! :D Food is simply food haha
